CND Shellac Brisa LED Lamp Review

In May 2015, CND released the long-anticipated LED Lamp to cure Shellac. The lamp said can cut the curing time in half and can cure Shellac and Brisa.

CND LED Lamp Features

The CND LED Lamp utilizes 3C (Complete Chromatic Cure) Technology to optimize light, time and energy for maximum shine and lasting durability across a full spectrum of colors. It shows from the design and setting.

The lamp is round and lighter. It’s more open. You can see inside from front or back side.  It’s acetone resistant. No sliding tray as the lamp is quite open; thus allowing the foot to go in freely.

Some great features are:

  • Targeted exposure to the nail bed area where you want to cure the polish, not all over the hand. There are 5 LED bulbs right on top and 2 bulbs on the right and left for the thumbs.
  • Easy-to-use preset controls for each service step.  There are 1 power switch (on the side) and 4 buttons for curing: 1, 2B, 2S and 3. See photo below for details.
  • Halved curing time: 10 seconds for all CND Base Coats, but only 60 seconds for CND Shellac Color coat, for all Brisa Gels and for all the curable CND Top Coats
  • Alignment guides for proper hand/foot placement on the surface base, making it easier to place fingers for targeted cure.

CND LED Lamp Vs Current UV Lamp

For starter, the look and design are totally different from CND UV Lamp. The CND LED Lamp has a round shape surrounding the hand. It’s smaller and lighter, which is about 1.7 lbs. Dimension is 8.3″x 8.2″x 4″.

CND Current UV Lamp

Compare to the original UV Lamp, the CND LED Light design has some interesting features such as:

  • Uniform drying
  • Cures in half the time compared to CND UV Lamp
  • The same 1 year warranty
  • No bulb replacement. Each LED light will last up to 10,000 hours.
  • No assembly required compared to CND UV Lamp, which you have to open and plug in all the bulbs before using it.
  • Removable power cord (the lamp we have comes with US plug)
  • It accepts 100-240V AC, 50/60Hz (thumbs up for this)
  • Power consumption max is 36 Watts
  • There are only 4 buttons compare to 8 at UV Lamp

Curing Time

What I found interesting with CND LED Lamp is that when you press the “1” button for curing base coat, instead of beaming continuously, the lights will pulse (turn on then off) 5 times for total 10 seconds before turning off. So don’t be alarmed if you see the lights are pulsing and yes, your lamp works fine. The pulsing also happens when you press “3” for curing top coat. It will pulse for couple times before lighting continuously.  No pulsing when you press button “2B” or “2S”.

So what do you think about this lamp? Like it or not?

Can CND Shellac cured by LED light?

Nope.  According to a CND rep we contacted last December 2012 and a CND Education ambassador, they both stated that only CND Shellac UV Lamp or Brisa lamp can cure CND Shellac.  Here’s what she said:

Thank you for contacting CND.
No. The CND Brisa UV Lamp and the new CND UV Lamp are the only lamps currently on the market that emit the required levels of UV to fully cure all the components of the Shellac system. The use of other manufacturers’ UV or LED lamps will not guarantee the same results.

So have you successfully cured Shellac with LED or other UV lamp beside CND Shellac/Brisa lamp? Feel free to leave your comment.

Duolite LED and UV Combo Nail Lamp

When buying the first nail lamp, sometimes we just can’t decide between a UV lamp or LED light. CND Shellac can only be cured by uv light while LED can cure gel polish. So buying your nail lamp can be confusing especially if you want to use CND Shellac and gel polish.

Duolite LED UV Nail Light

If you’re in this situation, Duolite LED or UV Combo Curing Nail Lamp by Star Nail is the answer. It’s the only lamp you will ever need.

Duolite combo lamp combines both LED and UV light cure technology into one lamp. It’s designed to allow you easily switch from LED to UV light setting in seconds! So this lamp works virtually for all brands of LED and UV gels, soak off gels, hybrid polish and top coats.

Duolite LED and UV lamp works in 2 modes:

Full LED Mode
5, 10, 30, 60 second cure

Full UV Mode
36 watt
30, 90, 120, 180 second cure

Both modes can cure 5 fingers. It comes with a removable tray.

Voltage: 110V only. International customer would need a transformer to use it.

Duolite Combo LED and UV Lamp

The uv lamp will need to be replaced when it shows sign of undercuring. Use Ocius or Rapidcure 9-watt bulb as replacement. It’s recommended when changing a UV light bulb to change all of them at the same time.

The LED bulbs do not require changing. It’s long lasting. Keep bulbs clean and free of dust as this will reduce the bulbs ability to cure properly.

Nail Polish and UV Lamp Bulbs Disposal

Whether you have boxes and boxes of nail polishes in your closet or just a few in your drawer, we all eventually have to throw away some of them. With the rising of gel nail polish and uv lamp consumption, we have to know the proper way of nail polish disposal.

Nail polish and uv lamp bulbs are categorized as household hazardous waste because they contain chemicals that are hazardous to health and environment. Therefore, they need to be disposed in a different way than regular garbage.  In California, nail polish and bulbs are not allowed to be dumped into the dumpster but we need to dispose them in a special facility that accept this kind of waste. For more information about this, please read “How to Dispose Your Nail Polish Properly“.

Another way is to reuse nail polish in different ways. Read “15 Alternative Uses for Nail Polish” to get some ideas. Let us take care the earth by disposing nail polish in a proper way.

Is UV Lamp safe?

In this post I am trying to put together all articles from other sources regarding the safety of doing gel manicures with uv lamp. Will be updated whenever needed.

LED lamp is expensive at the front but in the long run, it’ll be a money-saver. Problem with UV Lamp is the bulbs diminish in power during their life time so it’s recommended to change every 6-9 months. One thing you need to know is that not all LED light are the same. They have difference wattage and power output depending on the bulbs and how the bulbs positioned. I heard problem from a customer and internet somehow, LED light 9 watt is not strong enough to cure in seconds. That means with 9 watt you need to lengthen the time to cure the gel polish properly which makes the curing time almost similar to UV Lamp. If this happens, then what the point buying LED light?
