Thresa Sulistio, The D-I-Y’er

Thresencia SulistioThere’s always something interesting in people’s life story. I would like to share some with you today in Q&A format. I’ll start with myself and I hope to write more stories about people in nail industry.

YOU FOUNDED ESTHER’S NAIL CENTER. HOW DID IT START?

I believe what you give you’ll receive it back. It started when I first moved to San Diego in 2004. Back then I still had plenty of spare time. So I volunteered at the local library. Then I knew the supervisor at the library who just started a nail polish line. She offered me to sell her nail polish and I grabbed the chance. I thank God that Esther’s Nail Center still exists and it is what it is now.

TELL US YOUR MOST INTERESTING/FUNNIEST MOMENT

When I first started the business, I didn’t have a different business phone number. So people called to my home phone. One early morning, my husband took a call from a customer asking for Esther as she wanted to order some nail polish. Thinking the customer was my friend, he casually said that I was still in bed and couldn’t talk. It was really embarrassing to call back the customer :-).

WHAT IS YOUR TOUGHEST MOMENT YOU WISH YOU NEVER HAD?

Managing business always has some down moments. One saddest part is when we lost a great deal of money couple due to some credit card frauds. We were naive back then and thought everything was secure. Since then we learnt a lot.

WHAT’S SOMETHING WE DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU?

I am an immigrant. I speak English as second language. I am a quiet person. I like to be home when my kids come from school. I am active at a local Indonesian Church and I have another insurance business. And I find it difficult to apply nail polish nicely. 🙂
